Brownfields are abandoned, idle or underused industrial and commercial properties where redevelopment is complicated by real or perceived environmental contamination. Reclaiming these lands provides many benefits and embraces the concept of “sustainable development,” as it encourages the more efficient use of existing infrastructure, services and facilities.
To date, Wesgroup has restored over 200 acres of contaminated land. We have extensive experience in all phases of the redevelopment process, including:
- conducting due diligence to assess the extent of contamination
- identifying and securing environmental insurance
- negotiating property sale contracts with indemnity provided to the vendor
- securing acquisition financing
- establishing and completing Remedial Action Plans
- identifying and assessing potential land reuses
- obtaining government-issued Certificates of Compliance and Letters of Determination for remediated land to both residential and commercial standards
- obtaining development approvals and securing tenants for redeveloped land
- ongoing operation and maintenance of remedial systems
