In Metro Vancouver, where relatively mild winters help keep our heating requirements low, we think new community developments offer a solid opportunity to incorporate innovative, off-grid energy programs.
Currently, we are investigating a number of renewable energy initiatives, with the long-term goal of establishing a series of self-sustaining neighbourhood energy utilities. Areas of interest include heat recovery from existing sewage systems infrastructure and recapturing excess heat and energy from large institutional facilities.
While feasibility studies are still underway, it appears either initiative could cut energy costs, reduce our carbon footprint, and utilize an otherwise wasted resource.
The technology exists. Let's use it.
